We welcome people interested in learning about growing organic vegetables and fruits, and actively participating in the work of sustainable living. We have opportunites available on the farm and in the Chicago area.
The farm employs several workers each season. Workers live at the farm (optional), and enjoy learning about sustainable living and organic farming while cultivating, harvesting, and working in the processing kitchen. Farmers' Market Sellers
We love summer farmers' markets...the direct contact with customers, the community of vendors, and the outdoor spaces. That said, as we build up our CSA we'll be cutting back on the number of farmers' markets we attend in 2013. When we do participate in markets, one of the best ways to develop relationships with our customers is to have a consistent presence with a knowledgeable person behind our table.
For 2013, Tomato Mountain will be looking for a few good people to represent us at these markets in and around Chicago. If you’re enthusiastic, reliable, available for the full season (generally June through October), have a car, and can lift 50 pounds, we’d love to talk with you about the prospects of working for Tomato Mountain this coming season. Most of our markets are on weekends, so even if you simply want to work a Saturday and/or Sunday market while keeping your day job, that could work. There is also a possibility for weekday markets and occasional fill-in work.
A farmers’ market employee is the face of Tomato Mountain to the public, so we’re careful to put interested, knowledgeable, and informed employees behind the table. You’ll train with experienced market sellers, make a trip to the farm, if you'd like, to see how and where our products originate, and, for those who are interested, there will be an opportunity to help out at the farm with a big harvest (like during peak strawberry or tomato season) so you can really speak from experience.
You'll learn more about our guidelines for market sellers as our dialogue progresses, but be aware that the job requires you to remain active and stand for the length of the market (no sitting) and absolutely no smoking during markets.
Relationships with our employees are important, too. We know that our farmers’ market sales staff is integral to our success, and we welcome the opportunity to develop a continuing relationship from season to season, or finding another place in our ever-growing operation to use your skills.

CSA Delivery Drivers
We’re looking for a few drivers for our Tuesday and/or Thursday evening CSA delivery routes. Must have your own insured vehicle (sedan or larger), a valid drivers’ license with a good driving record, a cell phone with texting, and be very reliable. This position can be coupled with selling at one or more farmers markets. Contact Robin, 708-370-8017, or firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested. If you email us, please include a phone number where you can be reached.
